Holland Announces Elastron as Exclusive TPE Partner

M. Holland Company, a leading distributor of thermoplastic resins, is partnering with global thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) producer Elastron to provide an alternative source of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) and other compounded TPEs to the domestic wire and cable market, the companies announced today.

Elastron entered a distribution agreement with M. Holland in 2017. The two companies have been qualifying Elastron materials in advance of Elastron’s new compounding facility in Gainesville, Ga., scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2018.

“M. Holland’s recent acquisition of T&T Marketing, a leading distributor to the wire and cable industry, has accelerated this initiative. T&T is renowned in the wire and cable industry for its technical expertise and applications development capabilities,” said Elastron Managing Director Zev Gurion. “We look forward to bringing new, cost-effective TPE solutions to the wire and cable market, along with superior service from our new facility.” Gurion also noted that the new facility would produce TPVs as well as Styrene Ethylene Butylene Styrene (SEBS), styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) compounds, all of which are materials widely used in wire and cable and automotive markets.

Tom Jordan, T&T co-founder, who has continued as managing director of the business unit, added, “Elastron has an excellent portfolio of existing wire and cable grades and a desire to partner with us in developing innovative new products for the market. This partnership illustrates the market collaboration we hoped to realize when we merged with M. Holland.”

Based in Turkey, Elastron is a global TPE producer with offices in Asia, Europe, and North America. It exports to over 50 countries. Compounder Elastron Kimya A.S. is investing $10 million to open a factory in Gainesville, Ga., which will start with two extrusion lines and an annual capacity of 3,500 metric tons and grow to 6,000 metric tons of capacity by 2020.

Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Andover, Mass., T&T has annual revenues of about $40 million and services about 250 clients in the United States and Canada. It also has a testing and research facility in Easton, Pa., dedicated to the wire and cable market. M. Holland acquired T&T in October 2017.

Holland is a leading international distributor of thermoplastic resins, providing suppliers the most strategic channels to market, offering innovative sourcing and supply chain solutions to our clients, and helping people lead rewarding careers. Since 1950, a deep commitment to personal relationships has formed the core of the company’s heritage, its culture, and its vision. Headquartered in Northbrook, Ill., M. Hurricane Harvey Message URGENT

Posted by Amanda Bakelaar

Sep 5, 2017 2:41:19 PM

As you are aware, the Gulf Coast region has suffered a major weather event from Hurricane Harvey and the full extent of the impact is still unfolding.  In addition to manufacturers, many of the logistics and support industries including rail and road operations have suspended service in the Lake Charles and Houston area on a temporary basis.

We have received many inquiries regarding our inventory and supply position.  We can advise the following at this time.

  • T&T's supplier facilities are not located in directly affected areas, however feedstock and additives used in manufacturing compounds might be affected in the coming weeks.
  • T&T should have sufficient inventory to cover existing customer orders at normal ordering levels.
  • T&T is exploring additional supply to supplement our inventory.
  • T&T is continually reviewing the supply situation with our suppliers.
  • Unfortunately we expect prices to rise as supply gets tight

Should you have any questions, please contact your Account Manager.

T&T wishes to express our concern and sympathy for companies and individuals that have been directly affected by this catastrophe.

Outdoor, Flame Retardant, TPV Grades Available

Posted by Jessica Hoogendoorn

Oct 1, 2015 12:09:48 PM

The following two grades offered by T & T Marketing are highly flame retardant and will meet UL f1 or f2 weatherability ratings.
TPE 5170
TPE 5170 is a soft, natural, weatherable, flame retardant thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) compound for applications requiring excellent ozone resistance and resistance to flex fatigue. This material has good fluid resistance and is formulated to replace thermoset rubbers such as EPDM, polychloroprene and chlorosulphonated polyethylene.
TPE 5170 complies with "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" Directive, Citation 2002-95-EC, commonly known as RoHS. TPE 5170 contains a halogen-based, flame retardant additive package designed to reduce normal flame spread characteristics. It is shear-dependent and can be processed on conventional thermoplastics equipment for injection molding, extrusion or blow molding. It is polyolefin based and completely recyclable. The formulation for this compound was acquired by T & T Marketing from ExxonMobil Chemical.
Santoprene™ 151-70W256 is a soft, black, flame retardant thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV).
This material has been designed to meet the Underwriter Laboratories (UL) Subjects 6703, 6703A, 3730 and 1703 material requirements for both junction boxes and connectors (both enclosure and insulation) for use in photovoltaic systems.
The flame retardants used are RoHS compliant and provide UL 94 flammability classifications of V-1 down to a thickness of 1.5 mm and 5VA down to a thickness of 1.8 mm. The material has an elevated Relative Thermal Index (RTI) of 90°C and meets the requirements for suitability for outdoor use with an f1 rating. This grade of Santoprene™ TPV is shear-dependent and can be processed on conventional thermoplastics equipment for injection molding. It is polyolefin based and recyclable within the manufacturing stream.

New Zero Halogen, Horizontal FR, Moisture Cure Systems Bulletinized for UL 44 and UL 854

Posted by Jessica Hoogendoorn

Sep 8, 2015 3:43:33 PM

T & T Marketing now offers two zero halogen, moisture-induced crosslinking polyethylene compound systems that are designed for use as low voltage wire insulation and jacketing.
These systems are recommended for use as insulation and sheath for low voltage control cables and power cables up to 6kv in rating. Both also contain a patented scorch retardant additive (SRA) that increases the processing window for a moisture crosslinking compound and minimizes the tendency for premature crosslinking in the extruder, head or die.
FR4450/LE4433 (black)
The combination of a Visico FR4450 base resin, and the LE4433 catalyst, provides a highly scorch retardant compound with excellent thermal stability and good flame retardant properties.
FR4450/LE4433 is designed to reduce normal PE flame spread characteristics and achieve an HB-1 flame rating on 14 AWG wires and larger. LE4433 also provides, in addition to catalyst, a stabilization package containing suitable antioxidants, a metal deactivator and fine particle size carbon black for UV weather resistance.
FR4450/LE4439 (natural)
The combination of a Visico FR4450 base resin, and the LE4439 catalyst, provides a highly scorch retardant compound with excellent thermal stability and good flame retardant properties.
FR4450/LE4439 is designed to reduce normal PE flame spread characteristics and achieve an HB-1 flame rating on 14 AWG wires and larger. LE4439 also provides, in addition to catalyst, a stabilization package containing suitable antioxidants, a metal passivator and a metal deactivator. Properly mixed, during the extrusion process, FR4450/LE4439 exhibits excellent thermal stability to oxidation.
FR4450/LE4439 is readily pigmented to a variety of colors using standard wire & cable color concentrates designed for thermoplastic or crosslinked polyethylene.
