In addition to having a presence on the exhibit floor, T & T Marketing will also be taking part in a technical presentation at IWCS.
At this year’s conference, T & T’s Technical Director, Paul Lorigan, will be presenting a paper entitled “Quantification of the Flexibility of Flame Retardant Insulation and Jacket Materials When Designing Wire & Cable Products.” The presentation will take place at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, October 8th. It will be one of the presentations that make up Session 18: Flame Retardant Technology.
In his presentation, Paul Lorigan will discuss the selection of wire and cable insulation and jacket materials for flexible constructions. Design engineers typically seek softer materials. The softness or hardness is most often quantified by Durometer Testing in the Shore A scale. Although there is good correlation between hardness and flexibility with unfilled non-flame retardant materials, there is less correlation as flame retardant fillers are added to flexible polymers. Certain jacket materials can be indistinguishable in hardness but drastically different in their actual flexibility. Lorigan’s paper reviews the ASTM procedure for hardness testing and proposes the use of various flexural moduli as a better method to quantify flexibility.

T & T Marketing now offers two zero halogen, moisture-induced crosslinking polyethylene compound systems that are designed for use as low voltage wire insulation and jacketing.
These systems are recommended for use as insulation and sheath for low voltage control cables and power cables up to 6kv in rating. Both also contain a patented scorch retardant additive (SRA) that increases the processing window for a moisture crosslinking compound and minimizes the tendency for premature crosslinking in the extruder, head or die.
The combination of a Visico™ FR4450 base resin, and the LE4433 catalyst, provides a highly scorch retardant compound with excellent thermal stability and good flame retardant properties.
FR4450/LE4433 is designed to reduce normal PE flame spread characteristics and achieve an HB-1 flame rating on 14 AWG wires and larger. LE4433 also provides, in addition to catalyst, a stabilization package containing suitable antioxidants, a metal deactivator and fine particle size carbon black for UV weather resistance.
The combination of a Visico™ FR4450 base resin, and the LE4439 catalyst, provides a highly scorch retardant compound with excellent thermal stability and good flame retardant properties.
FR4450/LE4439 is designed to reduce normal PE flame spread characteristics and achieve an HB-1 flame rating on 14 AWG wires and larger. LE4439 also provides, in addition to catalyst, a stabilization package containing suitable antioxidants, a metal passivator and a metal deactivator. Properly mixed, during the extrusion process, FR4450/LE4439 exhibits excellent thermal stability to oxidation.
FR4450/LE4439 is readily pigmented to a variety of colors using standard wire & cable color concentrates designed for thermoplastic or crosslinked polyethylene.
