Outdoor, Flame Retardant, TPV Grades Available

The following two grades offered by T & T Marketing are highly flame retardant and will meet UL f1 or f2 weatherability ratings.
 
TPE 5170 
TPE 5170 is a soft, natural, weatherable, flame retardant thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) compound for applications requiring excellent ozone resistance and resistance to flex fatigue. This material has good fluid resistance and is formulated to replace thermoset rubbers such as EPDM, polychloroprene and chlorosulphonated polyethylene. 
 
TPE 5170 complies with "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" Directive, Citation 2002-95-EC, commonly known as RoHS. TPE 5170 contains a halogen-based, flame retardant additive package designed to reduce normal flame spread characteristics. It is shear-dependent and can be processed on conventional thermoplastics equipment for injection molding, extrusion or blow molding. It is polyolefin based and completely recyclable. The formulation for this compound was acquired by T & T Marketing from ExxonMobil Chemical.
 
 
151-70W256 
Santoprene
Santoprene™ 151-70W256 is a soft, black, flame retardant thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV). 
 
This material has been designed to meet the Underwriter Laboratories (UL) Subjects 6703, 6703A, 3730 and 1703 material requirements for both junction boxes and connectors (both enclosure and insulation) for use in photovoltaic systems. 
 
The flame retardants used are RoHS compliant and provide UL 94 flammability classifications of V-1 down to a thickness of 1.5 mm and 5VA down to a thickness of 1.8 mm. The material has an elevated Relative Thermal Index (RTI) of 90°C and meets the requirements for suitability for outdoor use with an f1 rating. This grade of Santoprene™ TPV is shear-dependent and can be processed on conventional thermoplastics equipment for injection molding. It is polyolefin based and recyclable within the manufacturing stream.

T & T Technical Director Will Present Paper at IWCS 2015

In addition to having a presence on the exhibit floor, T & T Marketing will also be taking part in a technical presentation at IWCS.

At this year’s conference, T & T’s Technical Director, Paul Lorigan, will be presenting a paper entitled “Quantification of the Flexibility of Flame Retardant Insulation and Jacket Materials When Designing Wire & Cable Products.” The presentation will take place at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, October 8th. It will be one of the presentations that make up Session 18: Flame Retardant Technology.

In his presentation, Paul Lorigan will discuss the selection of wire and cable insulation and jacket materials for flexible constructions. Design engineers typically seek softer materials. The softness or hardness is most often quantified by Durometer Testing in the Shore A scale. Although there is good correlation between hardness and flexibility with unfilled non-flame retardant materials, there is less correlation as flame retardant fillers are added to flexible polymers. Certain jacket materials can be indistinguishable in hardness but drastically different in their actual flexibility. Lorigan’s paper reviews the ASTM procedure for hardness testing and proposes the use of various flexural moduli as a better method to quantify flexibility.

New Zero Halogen, Horizontal FR, Moisture Cure Systems Bulletinized for UL 44 and UL 854

T & T Marketing now offers two zero halogen, moisture-induced crosslinking polyethylene compound systems that are designed for use as low voltage wire insulation and jacketing.
 
These systems are recommended for use as insulation and sheath for low voltage control cables and power cables up to 6kv in rating. Both also contain a patented scorch retardant additive (SRA) that increases the processing window for a moisture crosslinking compound and minimizes the tendency for premature crosslinking in the extruder, head or die.
 
FR4450/LE4433 (black)
The combination of a Visico FR4450 base resin, and the LE4433 catalyst, provides a highly scorch retardant compound with excellent thermal stability and good flame retardant properties. 
 
FR4450/LE4433 is designed to reduce normal PE flame spread characteristics and achieve an HB-1 flame rating on 14 AWG wires and larger. LE4433 also provides, in addition to catalyst, a stabilization package containing suitable antioxidants, a metal deactivator and fine particle size carbon black for UV weather resistance. 
 
FR4450/LE4439 (natural)
The combination of a Visico FR4450 base resin, and the LE4439 catalyst, provides a highly scorch retardant compound with excellent thermal stability and good flame retardant properties. 
 
FR4450/LE4439 is designed to reduce normal PE flame spread characteristics and achieve an HB-1 flame rating on 14 AWG wires and larger. LE4439 also provides, in addition to catalyst, a stabilization package containing suitable antioxidants, a metal passivator and a metal deactivator. Properly mixed, during the extrusion process, FR4450/LE4439 exhibits excellent thermal stability to oxidation.
FR4450/LE4439 is readily pigmented to a variety of colors using standard wire & cable color concentrates designed for thermoplastic or crosslinked polyethylene.

T & T Marketing offers an extension range of Huntsman IROGRAN® Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPU) for extrusion applications. TPU is used in wire and cable applications when high flexibility/elasticity, excellent abrasion resistance, very good cut resistance, high bending stability, and halogen-free characteristics are needed.

Typical applications include cable jacketing for oil and gas exploration, mining cables, automotive brake systems, military, robotics and industrial cables and coiled cables.

A 78 P 4766NM

Flame-retardant, halogen-free,polyether based thermoplastic polyurethane intended for extrusion and injection moulding applications. Has UL 94 Classification V0.

A 85 P 4854

A flame-retardant, halogen-free polyether based TPU.
